Org. Setting and Reporting

The internship is located in the Country Office in the Plurinational State of Bolivia (COBOL), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna (Austria).

 

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Bolivia aims to diversify its programme within the framework of the mandates stipulated in the UNODC strategy and the Country Programme for Bolivia 2016-2020. UNODC programme and project implementation is guided by the principles set in the framework of the Country Programme and the procedures established by its headquarter in Vienna.

 

The Country Programme responds to the priorities of the Plurinational State of Bolivia (EPB), which were identified in close coordination with national counterparts, making the best use of the comparative advantages of UNODC in the areas of its mandate. The main objective of the Country Programme is to strengthen the capacity of the Plurinational State of Bolivia to prevent crime and respond to the interconnected threats of drugs, organized crime and corruption, with the vision of contributing to the achievement of the objectives defined in the Patriotic Agenda 2025 and the Economic and Social Development Plan 2016-2020 of Bolivia, as well as the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

 

The internship positions are offered for an initial period of two or three months with various reporting dates, and opportunity for extension, subject to the needs of the department and the availability of the interns.

 

The internship is UNPAID and full time.

 

Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.


Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual′s background, as well as the internship period.

 

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Associate to the Representative, the intern will responsible for:

 

Assistance in drafting and preparing of documents and correspondence of various natures.

Attending conferences and meetings and preparation of minutes and summaries as requested.

Preparation of reports, presentations and statistical information in various formats.

Assisting of preparation of legal instruments, files and documents for digitization and archiving.

General support to the work programme of the office, including among other areas: e-learning courses, etc..

Client Orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be "clients" and seeks to see things from clients' point of view; establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect; identifies clients' needs and matches them to appropriate solutions; monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems; keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects; meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.


Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

 

(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or

(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation

 

(OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION)

 

The intern should:

Be computer literate in standard software applications; have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.


Work Experience

No professional experience is required, nevertheless applicants are encouraged to list all relevant work experience in their application.


Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e.oral and written proficiency is required. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
